Proudly known as "The Pride of the Highway," Station No. 11, tucked just off Richmond Highway, has four trucks—an engine, a heavy rescue, a ladder and a brush—and two ambulances. The Pride of the Highway is one of only four stations in the county equipped to respond to hazardous material incidents.
One of the busiest of Baltimore County's 33 volunteer fire companies, the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to Arbutus and its surrounding communities. AVFD is one of only two stations in the county, with two Advanced Life Support-equipped ambulances. Swift water rescue has been been part of the department's activities for more than a decade.
The AVFD firehall is an Arbutus institution, with a community center available for special events, regular record and CD meets that attract dealers and collectors from around the region and an annual carnival in July.
Paulding County EMA supports local officials, businesses and citizens as they plan and prepare for disasters. Should a major incident occur, EMA conducts a damage assessment that could result in a disaster declaration, which can provide assistance to individuals, businesses, nonprofits and local governments. The EMA also supports disaster relief programs at the state and federal levels, and coordinates immediate aid from local organizations to affected families.
This location is also the second of 11 fire stations in Paulding County. The Paulding County Fire Department works to suppress fires when they occur; provides emergency medical response in life-threatening emergencies; conducts inspections, investigations and code enforcement related to fire service; and promotes fire prevention.
