A Narrative for the Hope District Historical fears of violent oppression, resentment because of discrimination and an economic shift from muscle to technology added to the fury of the hot summer of 1967. The exact chemistry is still hard to discern. Yet one impression seems understandable. The 1967 Rebellion had to happen for the hope of the grassroots to be unleashed. The flame of 67 still burns for peace, social, political and economic empowerment. The Hope District is a manifestation of that flame. Friends of Detroit Overview Our foundation is committed to providing humanitarian services, vocational skills training, life management skills, and an improved quality of life to inner city residents. Our mission is to create a skilled local work force that can rebuild their neglected communities through new home construction and enhanced economic development. We strive to reach our goal of transforming our neighborhoods to have affordable housing and employment opportunities for everyone. We believe everyone in the community is responsible for helping make his or her community a better place to live. Therefore our motto is "There Are Enough of Us to Help The Rest of Us."

The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, Inc. was formed as a 501 (c) (3) with the mission of developing access on the Detroit International Riverfront. The entire vision is 5 1/2 miles of Riverfront property, from the Ambassador Bridge to Gabriel Richard Park, just west of the Belle Isle Bridge, and will include a continuous RiverWalk along with parks, plazas and green spaces.

Once completed, the Conservancy is responsible for the improvement, operations, maintenance and programming of the Detroit International Riverfront in perpetuity.

The vision of Detroits transformed Riverfront is clearly becoming reality. However, support is still needed to complete the project and to deliver the world class Riverfront that Detroit has always deserved. The Conservancy is underway with a $140 million capital campaign, which will provide the necessary funding to design and build a new public space, as well as permanently maintain, operate and program the Riverfront for the public.

Capital campaign contributions are also welcome at any amount - via credit card or check. To donate via credit card, please enter the amount you are interested in giving in the space provided
