Food for the Hungry, based in Phoenix, works in more than 45 developing countries, providing disaster and emergency relief and implementing sustainable development programs to transform communities physically and spiritually. Established in 1971 by Dr. Larry Ward, it offers a variety of services. Its child development services provide parental counseling, medical checkups, education, school supplies, new skills development and education about AIDS. Its church development programs provide training methods and materials, collaborating with churches to help reach out to their communities. Economic development programs offer irrigation, natural resource management, water and sanitation, and community health. Food for the Hungry assists in food security by transferring farming technologies to increase agricultural production, promote forestry, soil conservation and water conservation.
