Iowa State University sits on a 2,000 acre park-like campus in the center of Ames. Colleges within the university include the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Business, College of Design, College of Engineering, College of Human Sciences, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Graduate College.
Des Moines Area Community College West Campus is a public institute of higher learning located in the southwestern outskirts of town near the Racoon River. Offering two-year programs from the DMACC Department of Arts and Science, the West Campus focuses on technology and engineering programs. As a satelite campus of the main DMACC location in Ankeny the West Campus does not have seperate residential facilities and is mainly made up of tech-based classrooms and labs focused on hands-on learning. Besides classes and labs the futuristic-looking campus center also features a cafe called MegaBites.
This is a training center. The Salon Professional Academy, located in central Ames, is in the business of teaching its students all aspects of beauty salons. Classes here include basic cutting and styling, all the way up to salon management and administration. The Academy is open to customers willing to try out the skills of its students, with services like massage, manicures, pedicures, cuts, styling and makeup offered at reduced prices.
Viterbo College, based out of Wisconsin, has regional offices and classrooms at this location. This outpost of the college offers programs in Iowa Master of Arts in Education, middle school endorsement, reading endorsement, or talented and gifted endorsement, as well as several other education-related programs.
Grace Baptist Church and Academy is led by Pastor Dr. Cecil Ballard. The academy offers education and fitness programs for children. The church holds several congregational gatherings throughout the week. Sunday activities include Christian education and Bible study at 10am, preaching services at 11am, Teen Challenge at 5:50pm and an evening service at 6:30pm. On Wednesday evening, the church offers a prayer meeting at 6:30pm and a family Bible study at 7pm.
Grace Baptist is equipped with its own transportation buses and the grounds feature a park and playground. The congregation is a supporter of the Signal Sixty-three effort.
