Founded in 1960, the Oceanic Institute is an applied aquaculture research facility. It is located on a 56-acre site in Waimanalo, Hawaii. It is affiliated with the Hawaii Pacific University and offers the site for various research jobs, such as high-technology marine culture systems and pharmaceuticals resulting from marine biotechnology advances. It is also a federally funded deepwater upwelling project that provides access to cold water for varied species research.
