Established in 1983, Twentymile Coal Company is one of the world s largest private sector coal companies. It is a longwall operation with one of the fastest and most powerful shearers in the world. The company utilizes a conveyor belt technology that includes wide panel and high-speed mainline belts that have the capacity to move over 12 million tons of coal every year to the surface. Twentymile Coal Company received the Reclamation Excellence Award in 2004 for protecting water quality from the Colorado Mining Association (CMA) and the Colorado Division of Minerals. It also earned the Geology and the Pollution Prevention Award in 2006 from the Colorado Department of Public Health. Twentymile Coal Company is a subsidiary of Peabody Energy, which serves the global coal demand from electricity generators and steelmakers.
