This office is home to the state of Connecticut's Probate Court Administration. The 117 judges who work in Connecticut's probate system oversee estates, trusts and family matters, including issues concerning children, senior citizens, those with mental retardation and those with psychiatric disabilities. The state system has its origins in the days when Connecticut was a colony, almost 300 years ago. The probate court for the Town of West Hartford is located in Town Hall.
West Hartford is a suburb of the state's capital city of Hartford, with about 63,268 residents in 22.2 square miles. The town features a wide variety of services, businesses and community resources, including an aquatic center, a skating rink and an environmental education center. West Hartford was settled in 1679 and was a division of Hartford until it was incorporated in 1854. The West Hartford Town Hall is conveniently located on South Main Street in the town center.
The Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents is a home-based organization representing all of the superintendents of schools in Connecticut. The association also has others involved who work with leadership teams of school systems. They strive to offer the best education to all of Connecticut students. This town department supervises infrastructure and development through building inspections, zoning enforcement, land-use planning, economic development and the construction of roads and public buildings. The department's major divisions are Planning & Zoning, Economic Development, Housing Services, Building, Capital Projects, Engineering and Public Communications.
The Leisure Services portion of this department includes all town recreational facilities and programs. Facilities run by this department include Buena Vista golf course, Cornerstone Aquatics Center, Elmwood Community Center, the meeting and conference center, all parks and pools, senior centers, all tennis courts, Veterans Memorial Skating Rink and Westmoor Park. James Capodiece currently serves as Director of Human & Leisure Services.
The Human Services portion of this department focuses on social and volunteer services. These include, among others, Dial-A-Ride, Al-Anon meetings, veterans' services and volunteer services.
