Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission is a part of community development department of the City of Des Moines, Iowa. It is a more than 15 member commission that is appointed by the city council. The commission makes recommendations on planning, zoning and subdivision platting issues related to development of the city. The city government operates a finance department that handles accounting, budgeting and reporting functions. Its fire department offers fighting and emergency medical services, as well as conducts fire safety inspections and public education classes. The city government s police department is a full-service law enforcement organization that focuses on preserving peace and security for the residents and visitors of the city.
