Tidewater Community College, founded in 1968, is a two-year college within the Virginia Community College System. It offers more than 150 degree and certificate programs to over 39,000 students each year. The college provides certificate programs in several areas, such as business technology, legal assistant, early childhood instruction, truck driving, welding and health sciences. It has a team of work force development consultants that develops custom training programs for businesses and employees. Tidewater Community College s Learning Resources Centers house nearly 170,000 resource titles, including books, serials, videotapes and audiotapes. It also operates the Advanced Technology Center and a Visual Arts Center in Portsmouth, Va. In addition, the college offers classes at local military bases and area schools. Tidewater Community College maintains four campuses, including one in Virginia Beach, Va.
