Sussex County Council houses data processing, economic development, environmental services, personnel, utility planning, and planning and zoning departments. The council houses an accounting department that is responsible for processing transactions, including the preparation of payroll reports, maintenance of fixed asset records, monitoring grants, and recommending and approving budget adjustments. Its engineering department provides design, construction, operation and maintenance solutions for public utilities, such as public water systems, airports, industrial parks, lighting districts, and waste water treatment and disposal plant. Sussex County Council additionally manages a public work department that is responsible for the regulation of private road design review and construction inspection. The council is also comprised of facilities management, emergency medical services, and community development and housing departments.
