The King County Library Systemoperates the Sammamish Library, which is locatedon city property in the 30-acreSammamish Commons. In January 2010, the Sammamish Library openedits doorsat this location with 15,000 new books, CDs, movies, magazines and other materials. The branch has more than 100,000 library materials and residents are known for attending its events and using services. The library, a parternship between the city and county, offers visitors 19,500 square feet of space, including meetings rooms and an open study area with tables. The totalspace is nearly twice the size of the old library building, which openedin 1998 and was located one mile away. The library offers story timesfor kids, including sessionsin Spanish andHindi,a teen writing group, classes for people learning English and a book club for adults. The library also has computer classes. There is a children's section, a larger meetingroom and the main study areawhich has a fireplace, tables, cushioned chairs and views through floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Friends ofSammamish Library, a community group,supports programsfor young people and adults bysellingused books and holding fundraisers.
