James P. Rowe, Sr., is passionate about his Italian heritage. His love of agriculture is rooted in the time spent as a child at his grandfathers Central Valley ranches, while his family ties are expressed in the name he and his late wife Jane gave their vineyard: Pezzi King combines the names of Jims and Janes mothers, respectively. The Rowes established Pezzi King Vineyards in 1993, when Jim discovered a beautiful vineyard nestled in the hills of Dry Creek Valley during a weekend visit from San Francisco. Aware of the vineyards superior terroir and captivated by the sites natural beauty, he purchased the 137-acre estate and undertook its beautiful transformation into one of the leading producers of Zinfandel in the acclaimed Dry Creek Valley appellation. The first step was restoring the vineyard to its natural, unspoiled potential: Jim Rowe, Sr. immediately eliminated all use of chemicals and implemented all-natural farming techniques. His commitment to quality extended to the winery, as well, which they completely renovated with state-of-the-art equipment. Today, Jim Rowe, Sr. and his wife, Cynthia, run the winery as a collaborative enterprise. Cynthia Rowe is involved with business planning and strategy Pezzi King Vineyards Jim Rowe, Sr. states his mission for Pezzi King Vineyards directly: "I wanted wines that would be considered among the best in the world. To accomplish this, I had to start with an excellent piece of land and add the right mix of talent and hard work. Were doing that at Pezzi King and well continue to strive for and achieve excellence in everything we do." Since 2006, Pezzi King Vineyards has won over 20 Gold medals in wine competitions and is among the highest rated Zinfandels in the world.

Eight miles from downtown Healdsburg, along the rural Westside Road, Porter Creek Vineyards, is one of the oldest wineries in the area—and still one of the smallest. Alex Davis is the owner and winemaker, having taken over from his father in both jobs; his daughter is now learning the ropes.

The tasting room is an artistically decorated rural cabin overlooking rows of vines, with engaging, knowledgeable Jonathan DeMichael guiding visitors through the concise wine list. Most of the wines are estate-grown, including several bottlings of pinot noir that rate high among experts. Production is limited to below 4,000 cases, and Porter Creek wines are usually found only in higher-end restaurants. Despite this, the wines are affordably priced, and the winery has developed a loyal clientele of online and local customers.

Both Ron and Marj Vuylsteke are native Oregonians. Ron was an electronics engineer at Tektronix in the early 1960s when a bumper crop of blackberries at the family home led to a gallon of blackberry wine. The result was tasty and the Vuylstekes family winemaking heritage was reborn. Ron and Marj decided to take the dramatic step of pursuing commercial winemaking and founded Oak Knoll Winery With the scarcity of Oregon vineyards, the first vintages Oak Knoll produced were an array of grape and fruit wines. Technical winemaking information was hard to come by, and "seat of the pants" winemaking was the norm in the early 1970s. Growing conditions and vineyards in the northern Willamette Valley are much closer to the cooler regions of Europe than they are to California. The wine courses and advice coming from California schools and the wine trade were geared entirely for warmer conditions. Therefore, growing grapes and making wine in the Willamette Valley presented new challenges to the American wine industry ; a new world of discoveries about vines and wines began to emerge from northern Oregon based on the trials, errors, and successes of these determined winemakers. Ron and Marj have been actively involved in regional and statewide community and wine industry organizations. In the late 1970s, Ron served on the organizing committee that created the Oregon Winegrowers Association. In the early 1980s, the Oregon Wine Advisory Board was formed to direct the states joint wine marketing, winemaking and viticultural research efforts. Ron was appointed to the original board and served for six years. Marj has been extremely active in countless Hillsboro area community and charitable organizations. The Oak Knoll Winery has always been a family operated business, with Marj and the children being involved since the first crush. From unloading flatbed trucks filled with berries to hand labeling bottles ; and from filling orders after school to learning about the process of winemaking, there is always something to do around a winery. Today, the second generation has stepped in to carry on the tradition in Ron and Marjs footsteps. Head Winemaker, Jeff ( a cousin ) took the reins in 2001 after working at the winery for 17 years. During his tenure he spent several years learning the craft from Ron, and then served as the Assistant Winemaker. Step-son, Greg now oversees the company as president after holding executive positions at Moonstruck Chocolates and Marsee Baking. Many of the other children are also working at various wine operations up and down the West Coast. Oldest son, Ron II worked at Tualatin Vineyards and Sokol Blosser Winery before becoming a consultant at several operations in the Napa Valley. He was then named Winemaker at Tudal Vineyards. Steve is the President of SakeOne. Youngest son, Doug spent some time at Rex Hill Vineyards before becoming Assistant Winemaker at Sokol Blosser Winery where he now resides.

Our philosophy is that fine wine is made in the vineyard ; that you first grow the healthiest, ripest grapes possible. Only then can a wine-maker pursue excellence in the cellar. Located in Cutchogue, the sunniest town in New York State, with climate and annual rainfall parallel to Bordeaux, France, we are graced with a 220 day growing season. Vineyard management techniques and winemaking methods are employed in complete service to the fruit -- chardonnay that tastes emphatically like chardonnay, merlot defined by merlots rich fruit flavors. A visit to our vineyards and winery will give you a chance to consider our design for success, and the remarkable results.
