The Office of the Public Defender is a part of the First Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. The office is responsible for providing legal counsel to individuals accused for various criminal offenses. It specializes in the defense of individuals charged with misdemeanor, felonies and criminal traffic offenses. The Office of the Public Defender also defends individuals who face involuntary commitment for mental treatment. In addition, the office offers legal services for children.
