Charter School of Wilmington, founded in 1996, is sponsored and operated by a consortium of several companies, including DuPont, Hercules Incorporated, Christiana Care Health System, Delmarva Power, AstraZeneca and Verizon. Located in Wilmington, Del., the school encourages partnership between teachers, parents, and community leaders, and is one of the earliest independently operated public schools in Delaware with a focus on the study of mathematics and science. It is approved by the Middle States Association, and enrolls more than 900 students representing various public school districts and several Catholic and independent schools. Charter School of Wilmington offers various subjects to students in grades nine through 12.
