Antonio Del Buono Elementary School (K-5) is one of Gilroy Unified School District's eight elementary schools. In excellent condition, the school was built in 1999-2000. Its library contains approximately 6,000 books and materials and has 64 computers for student use. It offers band, theater, chorus, wrestling, basketball, ultimate frisbee, football, soccer, track, field hockey and baseball.
With the town's largest student body, Gilroy High School has been around since the 1930s. Its current campus opened in 1977, offering a full range of sports programs.
This cheery school, framed by massive eucalyptus trees, is one of the oldest in Santa Clara County. Sixty percent of the students are Latino. The school is known as the "GATE" school in Gilroy Unified School District and offers self-contained GATE classes for third through fifth graders. There are 145 computers available for student use on campus.
Brownell Middle School offers sixth, seventh and eighth grade education. The school provides students with a variety of extracurricular activities and a core curriculum focused on English, math, science and second-language programs. The Music Academy of Gilroy is a music instruction and training school located in Trimble Hall, behind Gilroy United Methodist Church, at the corner of 4th and Church Streets in downtown Gilroy. The academy offers a wide range of music programs and lessons for students, including private and group instruction for various instruments. Some programs include piano and keyboard work, voice work, guitar, violin as well as musicianship work among many more. Classes are for students. St. Mary School in Gilroy offers kindergarten through 8th-grade education. Its program includes mentoring, music, Spanish and after-school sports in addition to core subjects. After one year of enrollment, competitive scholarship programs are available.
South Valley provides a comprehensive curriculum consisting of 28 core academic courses and a busy calendar of extracurricular activitiesto its 6 - 8 grade students. Academic tutoring is available to those who experience difficulties in their studies. For the musically inclined, there is the Concert Band, the Choir and Beginning Piano. For the athletes, the school offers cross country, track and field, wrestling, basketball, volleyball and soccer couching. South Valley is home of the Tigers. Power School -- an after school program -- offers assistance to the student athletes with their homework, as well as with transportation to Christmas Hill Park for practice. Athlete of the Year, Athlete Scholar and Coach Athlete are nominated every year.
Established in 1975, Luigi Aprea is the highest ranking elementary public school in Gilroy (8 out of 10). The school features a wonderful facility, excellent faculty members, extracurricular activities and a drive to inspire kids to be their best and strive to grow and achieve academically as well as socially. For safety and to encourage team/school spirit, Luigi Aprea has adopted a Monday-to-Thursday uniform policy. Every Friday is a free color day.
One World Preschool offers classes not just to tots but also to school-age students. It has a maximum capacity of 38 children for its day care program, which operates after school. The school leans towards an academic curriculum in which children practice number and letter recognition through activities like name writing, letter writing and reading and writing. The program does not have financial aid or scholarship programs; however, it does accept CalWorks. Students are eligible from 3 years of age through the third grade.
Ascension is a large, newly built middle school with a brick facade. The school is the third and newest middle school in the Gilroy Unified School District. It has competitive basketball, wrestling, soccer and volleyball teams, and an active theater program. The school's principal is Salvatore Tomasello.
Opened in 2008, Gilroy's Christopher High School is a modern, spacious campus on the edge of town that offers a variety of sports and activities for students.
The Anchor Point Christian High School was born out of love, inspiration and charity.
It is dedicated to offering quality education, integrated with Biblical wisdom and Christian values to its students, grades seven to twelve. In addition to its academic program, it offers an energetic athletic program with baseball, softball, volleyball and football programs.
