Vulcan Materials Company, based in Birmingham, Ala., is among the largest producers of construction aggregates, a major producer of other construction materials including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete in the United States and is also a leading producer of cement in Florida. The company provides infrastructure materials that are required by the American economy. The construction materials group of the company operates over 300 plants and other production and distribution facilities which provide a diversified line of aggregates, and related services to all parts of the construction industry in over 20 states, the District of Columbia, the Bahamas and Mexico. In 2007, it shipped approximately 231 million tons of aggregates. Vulcan Materials Company maintains facilities in Sycamore, Ill.
