Marine Science Magnet High School is a specialty school which endeavors to provide first- through fourth-year students with marine-related education, including programs which focus on science, boat handling, navigation, seamanship, aquaculture, engineering, resource management and more.
Claude Chester Elementary is in the Groton Public School District and serves students in pre-kindergarten through grade five. The school has about 390 students and 30 staff members. Jamie Giordano is the principal.
The school's media center offers an Internet-based system that allows students to access materials such as book summaries and images at school and at home. Art classes are offered in the various grades Wednesday through Friday, and the school's music program includes a string orchestra.
Claude Chester also has a school-based health center, staffed with a nurse practitioner and social worker, and offers sick office visits, physicals, immunizations and counseling.

Charles Barnum Elementary is in the Groton Public School District. It serves about 425 students in grades pre-kindergarten through 5, many of whom have parents in the military.
The school has a technology club for students in grades 3 through 5, to help students learn the basics of programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and GarageBand. The school also offers programs in music, art and physical education. Parents and Navy personnel donate hundreds of hours of volunteer time in the school each year. Valerie Nelson is principal.
The Avery Point is one of five regional campuses of the University of Connecticut. The campus offers undergraduate programs in American studies, Coastal studies and Maritime studies as well as the bachelor of general studies program and additional majors. The campus also runs a graduate program in Marine sciences. The university enrolls about 29,500 students, of which about 4,500 are undergraduate students at the regional campuses. U-Conn has 1,300 full-time faculty, 4,200 full-time staff and 200 part-time staff systemwide. Avery point does not have University-owned housing on campus for students but has made arrangements with apartment complexes in Groton where students may live. The campus offers a meal plan for students to eat at Fin's Cafe, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
West Side Middle School is in the Groton Public School District, and serves more than 500 students in grades 6 through 8. The school provides instruction in core academic subjects as well as Spanish, French, art, music, technology education, family consumer sciences, physical education and health.
The school also offers a school-based health center that can provide students with physicals, immunizations and sick office visits.
