Lafayette General Medical Center is a nonprofit, 343-bed acute care medical center that serves the nine-parish area of Acadiana, La. LGMC provides a range of services including heart care, minor emergencies, children s services, outpatient services, cancer care, home health care, women s services, older adult services, orthopedics, neurological services and occupational medicine. Lafayette General evolved from Lafayette Sanitarium, which traces its roots back to 1903. Lafayette General Hospital has been a past recipient of the coveted Magnet Award which is awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is given to hospitals that exhibit excellence in nursing. Only 100 hospitals in the country have been given Magnet Hospital status. Lafayette General Hospital is also one of only two Louisiana hospitals to have received Magnet status. The hospital maintains affiliations with other Acadiana hospitals and health care providers, including St. Martin Hospital, Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital, Advanced Medical and Orthotic Center.
