Simpson Electric Company was founded in 1927 and has had several contributions to history. Ray Simpson, the company s founder, built the indicating mechanism for the earth inductor compass used in Charles Lindbergh s historic solo transatlantic flight. The company designed the first compact all-purpose volt-ohm-milliammeter, which became standard for military use during World War II and fourteen different types of meters used during the Apollo space missions. Simpson Electric Company was purchased in 1985 by the Lac du Flambeau Band of Superior Chippewa Indians and now the company s products include panel meters (digital and analog), series counters, encoders and test equipment and accessories. The company has also developed a wireless, web-based, remote monitoring system.
