Thoreau Middle School serves students in grades six through eight and is a part of Gallup-McKinley County Schools. It employs a staff of trained custodians, assistants and teaching aides. The school s academic curriculum includes subjects, such as math, science, social studies and language arts. Thoreau Middle School supports a range of athletic activities, such as cross country, football, volleyball, cheerleading, tennis, golf, baseball, and track and field. It also provides programs in art, music, band and physical education. Thoreau Middle School operates a student council and chess, math and drama clubs. It features a media center that stocks a variety of educational software, reference materials, and fiction and nonfiction books.
