Opened in 1968, expanded in 1997 and again in 2000, the Sandburg Elementary campus occupies nine acres and is one of 13 District 200 elementary schools. In addition to Kindergarten through fifth-grade classes, Sandburg offers extended-day Kindergarten; a Before and After School Program (BASP); classes in art, music, a technology lab and physical education; and after-school programs such as Battle of the Books, band and orchestra.
Located adjacent to the DuPage County Fairgrounds and in front of the Wheaton water tower is James Howard Monroe Middle School. Monroe has approximately 740 students in grades 6 - 8. It offers a large array of extracurricular activities. Students in all grades may participate in intramural and interscholastic sports, music programs and clubs, such as the yearbook or reading club.
Welcoming only its third principal since the school's opening in 1964, Madison Elementary encompasses seven acres and is one of the thirteen District 200 elementary schools in Wheaton. The school was updated and expanded in 2000-01 and features two large gymnasiums, art and music rooms, a library learning center and a playground. Of the students tested in 2009, 90 percent met or exceeded state standards in reading, while 95 percent met or exceeded standards in math.
