Ox Ridge School is one of five K-5 elementary schools in Darien. Located on Mansfield Avenue, Ox Ridge is in the northernmost section of town and serves approximately 510 students. The principal is John F. Rechi. Every fall, Ox Ridge hosts the Ox Ridge Fall Book Fair, a three-day book fair dedicated to raising money for the school and offering children’s books to families in the community.
Hindley School is one of five K-5 elementary schools in Darien. Located on Nearwater Lane, Hindley is in the Noroton section of town and serves approximately 520 students. The principal is Rita Ferri. Every spring, Hindley hosts the Hindley Happenings, a one-day outdoor fair dedicated to raising money for the school and offering amusement park style rides and games to families in the community.
Hindley is also one of the sites for the Darien School District’s Early Learning Program (ELP), a special education program designed for preschool age children (Tokeneke School is the other location).
Founded in 1937, Middlesex Middle School serves public school students grades 6-8 in Darien. Each year, students are organized into groups called teams, consisting of approximately 80-90 students. Students only take classes with their peers who are on the same team as them, and within each team there are different teachers for each core subject. In addition to core classes, students take music, art, physical education, computer, technology education and family studies throughout their middle school education. Dr. Debi Boccanfuso is the principal.
Holmes School is one of five K-5 elementary schools in Darien. Located on Hoyt Street, Holmes serves approximately 480 students. The principal is Geraldine Petrizzi. Every winter during the holidays, Holmes hosts Holmes for the Holidays, a one-day indoor fair dedicated to raising money for the school, and offering a silent auction and other fun activities for families in the community.
The highly regarded Darien public school system is governed by the elected board of education. The schools are operated by the school district administrative officers, led by the Superintendent of Schools.
The public schools include five neighborhood elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The system also operates continuing education and summer school programs.
Tokeneke School is one of five K-5 elementary schools in Darien. Located on Old Farm Road, Tokeneke serves approximately 390 students. The principal is Ms. MaryLee Fisher. Every fall, Tokeneke hosts the Big Pumpkin Fair, a one-day outdoor fair dedicated to raising money for the school, and offering amusement park style rides and games to families in the community.
