Pajaro Middle School is comprised of five departments: mathematics, physical education, social studies, science and ELA/ELD. Part of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, it offers after-school homework and enrichment programs and hosts dances and other student events.
The New School provides education for students from 10th through 12th grades. This institution offers courses in math, English, science and the arts. Classes also are available in foreign languages and health sciences.
Built in 1994, Lakeview Middle School serves students in grades 6-8 at a campus that has vistas of two nearby lakes. The school encourages family participation in students' learning.
Cesar Chavez Middle School provides instruction for students in grades six to eight in the heart of the city. The core academic subject--English, mathematics, science and social studies--are covered, as are social and creative subjects through a variety of extracurricular activities. It has renowned after school programs, an on-site health clinic run by Salud Para La Gente and sports teams. Special education programs are also available.
Alianza Charter School is a two-way bilingual immersion program for K-8 students. Students from across the district can enroll in the school, which teaches kids in both English and Spanish. It is one of several charter schools in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District.
Started in 2001, the Watsonville Charter School for the Arts includes students from all over the Pajaro Valley. Dance, drama, music and visual arts are woven into the curriculum to enhance and deepen all subject areas. The 270 students are grades K-6.
Linscott Charter School utilizes both traditional educational models and newer research that shows value in experiential learning. Originally founded as a parent cooperative magnet elementary school in the 1980s, Linscott became a charter school in 1994 and now serves more than 200 students in grades kindergarten to eight. The school focuses on community and encourages parental involvement.
One of the newest schools in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, Ann Soldo Elementary School was named for a longtime local educator. Across the street from Franich Park, the kindergarten-fifth grade school serves about 600 students and focuses on literacy.
Pacific Coast Charter School launched a decade ago, combining a vision for a home-study charter school for high school students with the Pajaro Family Education/Home Independent Study, a kindergarten-eighth grade progam. Housed at the school district office on Green Valley Road, Pacific Coast Charter School now serves nearly 300 students with teachers who have an average of 22 years experience. Class sizes for core classes hover around 26 students. The school focuses on personalized eduation that blends home-school programs with enrichment opportunities.
Casserly Par 3 Golf Course is a nine-hole course set in the outskirts of Watsonville. There are is no pro shop or rentals, but fees are very low and the course well-maintained. Kids under 12 are not allowed and the range closes at 4pm. There is a no-hole practice putting green.
