Maintained in Crown Point, Ind., it is the mission of the Lake County Sheriff s Department to ensure public trust. The sheriff is responsible for police work encompassing crime prevention, patrol, traffic enforcement, criminal investigation, scientific evidence collection, arrest of criminals, searches and seizures. The Sheriff s special operations division is comprised of K9, bomb squad, tactical unit, chaplains, aviation, marine, aquatics and a command center. The department employs nearly 175 police officers, nearly 180 corrections officers and more than 155 civilians. Lake County is among the largest county in population of the nearly 95-counties in the state.
