Shands Cancer Center at the University of Florida is an interdisciplinary initiative connecting clinicians and scientists who perform original scientific research and enhance clinical strategies for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. Membership includes over 300 active members from several areas within the University of Florida and Shands HealthCare systems. Cancer center members are involved in several areas of bench to bedside research, from analyzing basic cell growth and biology to developing new treatment therapies in an effort to better understand how to detect, treat and cure cancer. Multidisciplinary teams provide treatment options based on traditional methods and research alternatives for several areas, such as bone marrow transplantation, breast cancer, head and neck cancer, orthopedics, hematology and oncology, which includes neuro-, pediatric, radiation and surgical oncology.
