The Kauai Publishing Company dates back to 1902, the year The Garden Island newspaper, Kauais newspaper of record, was first published. Kauai Publishing continues to publish and distribute The Garden Island daily. It also sends news of Kauai across the globe on KauaiWorld.com, Kauais best-read Web site. The visitor publications Essential Kauai and Japanese Beach Press are published twice monthly by Kauai Publishing Company, along with companion Web sites. TGI Homes is the real estate publication of Kauai Publishing and the Kauai Business Report is the companys monthly business publication. In June 2005, the company was purchased by Lee Enterprises of Davenport, Iowa. The sale was part of Lee Enterprises purchase of Pulitzer newspapers, the former owner of Kauai Publishing Company. Lee Enterprises is a newspaper publisher and media business that publishes 58 daily newspapers and 37 weekly newspapers in 23 states as well as online periodicals, shoppers, classified bulletins and other specialty publications.
