Family-owned for decades, Meadowlark Dairy is a drive-thru convenience store. Steer your vehicle under the covered driveway and sit in your car as the friendly staff delivers your order with a big smile. There are hundreds of items from which to choose, including dry ice, bread, eggs, homemade granola, ice cream cones and hot chocolate. Meadowlark Dairy is conveniently located in downtown Pleasanton, just off Main Street.
Mashti and Mehdi Shirvani founded Mashti Malone's Ice Cream in 1980. They're both from a small town in Northern Iran called Masshad and this region is where many of their interesting ice cream flavors have originated. The ice cream parlor in this shopping center on La Brea Avenue has garnered so much popularity that the brothers decided to start catering and selling their famous Rosewater Ice Cream by the pint, an Iranian favorite, under the banner of Akbar Mashti Inc. Hollywood celebrities often hire Akbar Mashti Inc. to cater cast parties. This particular shop attracts ice cream lovers from throughout the Los Angeles area who come to get a taste of its popular ice cream, sorbet, pastries and other treats. Seating is available indoors and on the front patio.
Open only from September through April, Winter Lodge is an outdoor ice-skating rink. Its mountain lodge-style building reminds suburban Palo Altans of wild nature and snow where neither actually exist. A nonprofit business, Winter Lodge offers 2-hour public sessions and private classes throughout the winter.
The Crystal Ice House is a large facility with three rinks, a snack bar and Jerry's Pro shop. They offer hockey camps and leagues for kids and adults, figure skating in private or group lessons, public skate times and birthday parties. Skate rental is available.
Downers Grove Ice Arena, located on Walnut just north of Maple Avenue, is a vintage ice rink featuring a single sheet of ice. The rink offers beginning figure skating programs and public skate. The Downers Grove Dazzlers, a synchronized figure skating team, is based out of this rink as well. There is also an old-timers hockey league for skaters over 40.
