The It's-It, an ice cream sandwich made from vanilla ice cream squished between two oatmeal cookies and dipped in chocolate, has been produced in the Bay Area since 1928. Though the ice cream treat is available in many grocery stores, you can order a case of It's-Its online to pick up at the company's office in Burlingame.
Established in 1994, Nuts for Candy reflects the owners' passion for fun, as much as for sweets. In this small and eclectic store, bulk and packaged candy cram the space, along with stuffed animals, board games and toy sets. Some of the toys are even edible -- like "Super Ropes" bubble gum, and candy necklaces. Electronics and digital gizmos are refreshingly absent, as a nostalgic reminder of days when simpler toys and an active imagination (fueled by ice cream or candy, of course) were the essential ingredients for great fun.
Cherimoya is a sweet little place for Vietnamese sandwiches, entrees and spring rolls that are sure to please the palate. Having moved from San Francisco to Burlingame, the word on the street is that this place has good food at reasonable prices. Thirsty? Try one of Cherimoya's delicious smoothies.
Preston's Candy & Ice Cream has been satisfying sweet cravings since 1943. One side of the store is devoted to the ice cream counter, where forty-eight traditional and unusual flavors of ice creams, sherbets and sorbets are offered (try the purple "Ube," a Philippine yam flavor). Preston's also sells freshly made chocolates that are molded into an array of shapes, some with cream filling. Employees behind the counter dip fresh strawberries in chocolate. Bulk candies, gummies and pops are available in assorted flavors and shapes. Special occasions can be celebrated with gift items or ice cream cakes.
