Built in 1790, Crabtree s Kittle House was originally constructed as Reisig and Hexamers Barn, a nursery and fruit farm. Some time in the late 1800s the farm was taken over by the Kittle family and was renamed The Kittle Barn and Carriage House. During the years of Prohibition, the house began to develop its reputation by serving the public as a roadhouse. In 1931 the roadhouse was once again converted into the Noble School for Girls. Unsuccessful, the school was closed after five years and Crabtree s Kittle House tradition as a restaurant and inn began. The inn has 12 rooms, each with private baths, telephones, cable televisions and high-speed Internet access. There are rooms with king-size beds and queen-size beds. Complimentary breakfasts are served to guests each morning. The inn s dining options include first courses, salads and main courses. The atrium dining room holds affairs of up to 225 guests. The main dining rooms have been restored and decorated with original 19th century artwork. Crabtree s Kittle House is located in Chappaqua, N.Y.
