Latham Centers, located on Cape Cod, offers nationally recognized innovative treatment and support services for two groups of individuals: 1) developmentally delayed girls and boys, and 2) children and adults with Prader-Willi syndrome. Our primary facilities are located on a campus in Brewster, with independent living and group homes located also in Brewster and other nearby Cape Cod towns for our adult programs. Latham Centers originated in 1970 to provide residential care and treatment for girls and young women, ages 8-22. We now serve both boys and girls in this age bracket. Some of these individuals come from environments of abuse and neglect that have resulted in severe behavioral and emotional problems. Others have been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, Aspergers Syndrome, Autism, or Reactive Attachment Disorder. The people we serve have histories of failed placements in foster care or treatment facilities, including psychiatric hospitals. Latham is a place of last resort for many of them. We provide a beautiful physical setting and an embracing environment where the people in our care can feel safe and have the opportunity to recover from their past traumas or learn life skills and coping mechanisms for the challenges that have brought them to us. Within this comfortable setting, we have brought together a highly skilled professional team of experts, including physicians, social workers, special education teachers, physical therapists, clinical psychologists, and residential and vocational counselors. This energetic and devoted team works together with each Latham resident and family members to develop the right approach and best services for that person. We evaluate each persons progress continually and adjust our programs and services to meet their changing needs. Latham is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. We are approved, as a private needs school, by The Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, and are accredited by The Department of Developmental Services, and the Department of Early Education and Care. We also work closely with the Department of Children & Families. Latham Centers partners with other states and countries to provide services to their students and individuals here on Cape Cod.
