Under new management, Checkerboard is a hidden gem. An amazing sandwich shop which features Boar's Head meats, hot and cold sandwiches either "New York" or "California" style and inlaid checkerboards on some of the tables, the new ownership is in the process of expanding the menu and updating the website in order to them up to par with all Checkerboard has to currently offer. Although the lunch specials and sandwiches remain the staple at Checkerboard, it also has a full breakfast menu, desserts, milkshakes, soups, salads and fountain drinks. Whole dill pickles are available at the counter and customers can order meats and cheeses by the pound to go. Free Wi-Fi is also available for dine-in customers, and catering services can also be provided with advance notice.

It is a premier market with large sections for fresh produce, meat, sweets, spices, and some specialty ethnic items you wouldn't find in the big supermarkets. DeJong's Cash & Carry Dairy is a local dairy farm located off of Corydon and Mission Trail. This family-owned dairy has been in operation for 52 years and produces approximately 500 gallons of milk a day. DeJong's is well known in the area for its milk and especially for its chocolate milk. Cheese and ice cream is sold on-site as well. Multiple non-dairy products are available for purchase. Products include animal feed, alfalfa and bermuda hay, breads, snacks and drinks.
Tours of the processing facility are also offered to visitors and there is a small petting zoo with peacocks, chickens, rabbits, goats, guinea pigs and sheep. DeJong's Dairy is very family kid-friendly.
Plowboys Market is a great produce stand located on Palomar Street. Available produce varies seasonally, but everything is fresh and available at great prices. Plowboys has another location in Murrieta which has a more extensive dairy selection, however the Wildomar stand has a good variety of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and specialty items such as candy apples (when in season). Plowboys is open daily and is definitely worth a stop for fresh produce.
Don Alfredo's is a meat and produce market located in the Palomar Plaza shopping center on Palomar Street in Wildomar. The market has a definite Mexican focus with packaged goods and produce, however are most known for its meat. Don Alredo's takes special orders if customers are ordering for a crowd, and while it does not cook the meat, Don Alfredo's will marinate on request.
