The Employment and Training Administration, located in Washington, D.C., is a part of the U.S. Department of Labor. It administers federal government job training programs and federal grants to states for public employment service programs and unemployment insurance benefits. The agency also works to support efficient functioning of the U.S. Department of Labor by providing high quality job training, employment, labor market information and income maintenance services primarily through state and local workforce development systems. Additionally, it addresses the workforce needs of manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, biotechnology, construction, energy, transportation, financial services, hospitality, health care and information technology industries. The Employment and Training Administration also provides community-based job training grants to build the capacity of community colleges to train workers to develop the skills required to succeed in high growth and high demand industries. It also provides technical assistance for the federal state unemployment compensation programs.
