In business since approximately 1991, the Beach House Gift Shop has been on the corner of Main Street and Spring Street for six. It sells unique items from all over the world, including linens from India, pottery from Europe, and Italian ceramics.
The Beach House also sells soaps and other wares from local and international artisans and has a lovely selection of stationery, bedding, and baby clothing. The bright, cheerful store is a natural showcase for its glasswares and tabletop items.
The Eastaway Clothing store is a great place to shop when looking for clothes for men or women. It has a large selection featuring a number of brand names and also carries shoes and accessories. Keep an eye out for great sales in the beginning and end of season.

Alley's General Store is a mainstay for many locals and tourists on the island. Located just barely on the West Tisbury side of the Chilmark town line, Alley's serves as a post office, convenience mart, toy and hardware store, and coffee shop. Alley's has been restored and kept up much as it appeared in its original days in the 1850s, and the porch still offers a few swings and a hammock where you can buy your lemonade, drink it and enjoy the day. During the summer, Alley's Farm Stand, located behind the general store, carries an array of local produce, most famously corn and peaches from nearby Morning Glory Farm.

Shirley's True Value Hardware is an independently owned and operated hardware store located on State Road in Vineyard Haven. The staff is knowledgeable and the small, tidy store has just about anything you need, from last minute Halloween costumes and Christmas decor to paints, nail guns, shelving units, sandpaper and more. While Shirley's True Value Hardware started on Main Street in Vineyard Haven, the current location provides a small but separate parking lot for customers, and offers more aisles and quicker service.
Just out back from Black Dog Water St. Bakery are two smaller-sized general stores. One was a former "coal builder" and the other an old ferry dispatch building. Now remodeled but retaining the charm of coastal wooden structures, the General Store and Whitefoot for Kids attract customers from both near and far who are looking for that special item adorned with the famous Black Dog logo. It has bar-stool type seating lining the windows if you'd like to stop and read the local newspapers while eating, and a few outdoor benches usually filled during nice weather. The health and beauty/photo lab area of Stop & Shop in Vineyard Haven is attached to the main store, but has a separate entrance. Though its title says "pharmacy," the manager simply calls this area the "back store" because it does not have pharmacy services, just over-the-counter health and beauty care products.
It also contains seasonal items (such as charcoal, bird food, beach chairs, snow scrapers and toys), greeting cards, magazines and paperbacked books, household and personal items and gift cards for major retail stores (including Sears, The Cheesecake Factory, Toys-R-Us and more). It also sells office/school supplies and has a selection of movies on DVD for purchase. There is a Coin Star machine and two bottle-recycling machines, along with a full-service photo processing department, including one-hour services.
For nearly 28 years Geoffrey Borr, owner of Chilmark Pottery has been making pottery on Martha's Vineyard. The shop and studio now located in West Tisbury,visitors can find all maners of cups, plates and bowls as well as decorative pieces of all sizes.
