The clock is ticking for this nonprofit foundation that, according to its articles of incorporation, will cease to exist on or before June 30, 2044. Founded in 1954, the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation seeks to honor the memory of its benefactor, for whom it is named, by filling unmet needs and attempting to gain an immediate, transformational impact in four principal areas of interest: the organization seeks first to meet the greatest needs of communities in Arkansas, Nevada and Oklahoma, primarily by improving facilities for community nonprofit organizations; the organization seeks second to accelerate the fight against arteriosclerosis and arteriosclerotic heart disease through the support of medical research; the organization seeks third to improve the quality of life of America s growing elderly population through better training of physicians in geriatrics; finally, the organization seeks to enhance the quality and integrity of journalism, focusing particularly on better training of journalists who serve smaller communities and on business journalism. The foundation became its own entity in 1993, when the death of Donald W. Reynolds provided for the foundation s endowment, divorcing it from the Donrey Media Group.
