Established in 1788, the Lawrence County Sheriff s Office is a law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. It is responsible for courthouse security, serving civil process and conducting foreclosure sales. In addition, the sheriff s office supports and augments local police with specialized services, such as crime scene investigation, bomb disposal, arson detection, emergency 911 dispatch, and search and rescue. The Lawrence County Sheriff s Office supports Project ChildSafe, which is a nationwide program that helps in ensuring safe and responsible storage and ownership of firearms. The office maintains a citizens academy that provides programs and services for crime prevention in association with the residents.
