Green Light Driving School has been holding driver's-education classes for teens and adults since 1997. It provides thorough lessons with an emphasis on safety. Classes are limited to 35 students and always in demand, so early enrollment is recommended.
Viking Driving School offers driver training and lessons to teens and adults. Drivers learn safety skills, Illinois state driving laws and driver awareness techniques. The school offers adult and teen new driver training, winter driving training, fleet driver training and collision avoidance classes. It offers private one-on-one training classes in addition to small groups.
Teens and adults learn safe driving skills here through classroom sessions, behind-the-wheel experience and in-car observation. At the end of the course, students receive a certificate of completion that works toward obtaining his or her driver's license.
Founded in 1927, South Suburban College provides its students with a comprehensive, community college education. Nearly 7,000 students enrolled for the fall 2010 semester, with about 4 percent being Oak Forest residents. Annually, about 17,000 students attend South Suburban College. The school offers 30 career education programs awarding Associate Degrees, as well as certification in areas such as computer information sciences and pharmacy technician. Other programs include court reporting or other health-related specialties.
As a community college, South Suburban offers transfer programs, which enables students to attain basic coursework before transferring to a larger college or university. Each spring, the college hands out 200 scholarships through its South Suburban College Foundation.
The college also has an Oak Forest extension, at 16333 S. Kilbourn Ave. The Oak Forest location offers college services and courses, including paramedic and paralegal training.
The school's Bulldog baseball team is well-respected in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Northwest Suburban Driving School is located in downtown Crystal Lake. The easiest way to find it is to park behind the building; the door is at the rear of the building. The driving school will provide the potential driver with the Illinois state-required 30 hours of classroom teaching. You can choose from four- or five-week courses. Yorkville's Excel Driving School offers classes on safe and courteous driving through education and experience for youth and adults. Complete courses include classroom instruction, driving time and in-car driving observation, but behind-the-wheel only classes are also offered to adults. Excel's Yorkville location is only open during scheduled classes. The main office is in Naperville, Illinois.
Top Driver provides driving instruction for teenagers and adults. Students can enroll online through the Web site or over the phone. Lessons are available to residents of Downers Grove and surrounding areas. This school has locations throughout Illinois, Connecticut, Michigan and Ohio.
Adams School of Driving has been helping people in Chicagoland learn how to drive since 1946. Teen programs meet graduation requirements with classroom only and behind-the-wheel instruction. Adult programs consist of private tutoring and testing in an Adams car according to the client's needs. Free pick-up and drop-off at home, work or school is provided. In addition to basic highway driving, winter, night, rain and road construction driving lessons are also available.
