Located in the Douglas County Courthouse, the Douglas County Magistrate Court handles small claims under $15,000 as well as garnishment actions. Residents may file a claim in this court without an attorney and a judge holds a hearing to decide each case. Residents may have an attorney represent them at their own expense. Judge Terry Jurado of the Renton Municipal Court is authorized by Washington State statute to preside over a limited number of cases including criminal misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, traffic infractions and other code violations that relate to the city of Renton. Small claims cases, civil cases, change of names or marriage licenses are not under the Municipal Court's jurisdiction. This sprawling building in Easton's West Ward is where most county business takes place. Civil and criminal court cases are decided here; the government center is also home to the offices of the county executive and county council, which meets twice a month. Other offices in the government center include the District Attorney, Department of Community and Economic Development, Register of Wills, the criminal and civil courts division, the protection from abuse office and orphan's court.
This court provides services in the probating of estates, appoints and removes guardians of minors and incapacitated adults, issues marriage licenses, firearm permits, birth and death certificates and handles traffic citations. It is housed within the Barrow County Courthouse.
Located in the Chester County Justice Center, Chester County Domestic Relations is a division of the court that makes rulings in child support cases. It also monitors and enforces child support orders as well as establishing paternity. Chester County Domestic Relations is located in suite 34oo of the justice center.
Puyallup Municipal Court is located in the center of Puyallup. Currently, Stephen R. Shelton is the presiding judge and Tina Marusich is court administrator. The court is closed on major holidays.
The Clerk of Orphans' Court located in the Chester County Justice Center, Suite 2200, accepts fillings for adoptions, guardians of minors and incapacitated persons. This office is are also responsible for issuing marriage licenses. The Clerk of the Orphans' Court is Paula Gowen.
City Hall is home to most of Brecksville's government departments, including Mayor Jerry N. Hruby's office, the service director's office, the courts and the building, finance and purchasing departments. It also serves as a public meeting place for the city's various commissions, committees and boards. City Council meets on the first and third Tuesdays of every month.
