This is the office of Suffolk County's 5th District Legislator Vivian Fisher, who serves Setauket, East Setauket, South Setauket, Stony Brook and parts of Port Jefferson Station, Terryville, Coram and Centereach as well as the villages of Belle Terre, Old Field, Port Jefferson and Poquott. The 5th Legislative District has 56 election districts containing a total of 46,713 registered voters. Fisher has been serving the 5th District since 1999.
Sheriff Donald Blaine Smith heads the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, which consists of one undersheriff, three captains, one chief investigator and 85 officers. The department features a marine unit, a narcotics enforcement unit, a civil bureau, a school resource officer and additional specialized units. The department's territory is county-wide, so at times it works with the State Police or different village police departments. Residents can visit the office to report crimes, incidents and domestic abuse or to inquire about pistol permits. The Sheriff's Department is attached to the Correctional Facility, which employs 57 correction officers.
Croton Point Park is a historic and recreational area near the Hudson River. The park offers 500 acres for residents and offers areas for camping, hiking and swimming. The park is one of the oldest in New York and offers numerous educational programs and activities year round, as well as a nature center and picnic areas. Suffolk County's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services aims to improve the overall health of expectant and new mothers with young children up to age 5. It offers breastfeeding support and nutrition education classes to help mothers make informed dietary decisions. WIC also offers food assistance by providing checks to purchase supplemental formula, low-fat or fat-free milk, whole grains, fruits and vegetables to low-income parents. Ward Pound Ridge Reservation is the county's largest park. People come for hiking, camping, playing on the park's two playgrounds, visitng its outdoor art exhibits or its indoor art at the gallery. There's also a trailside nature museum that sponsors exhibits and hikes.
Offices for the Westchester County District Attorney are located in the Westchester Supreme and County Courthouse. The District Attorney's office handles nearly 40,000 cases a year, and is broken into five divisions.
The county's 38 criminal investigators work under the Investigations Division. In addition to working on investigative cases, it also works on homicide, sex crime, child and domestic abuse and other prosecutions brought from the other divisions in the District Attorney's office.
