The St. Charles County Department of Dispatch and Alarm is responsible for the dispatch of one fire department, nine fire districts and the country-wide ambulance service in St. Charles County.
The facility has nearly 30 full- and part-time dispatchers on site to relay information to 34 fire stations and 15 ambulances bases located at various sites throughout the county.
The building is not open to the public.
Thornhill Historic Site is the farm of Missouri's second governor, Frederick Bates. This site is at Faust Park and includes the home, barn, summer kitchen, ice and smoke house, orchard and herb garden and family cemetery. It is the oldest standing governor's residence in Missouri. There are 90-minute tours for groups of 10 to 50, by appointment only.
A scavenger hunt is available to help make learning about the site fun for the kids.
The St. Louis County Children's Service Fund is a county department formed after voters in 2008 approved Proposition 1, authorizing a 1/4-cent sales tax increase. The tax generates about $35 million annually that is used to benefit people 19 and under in the areas of substance abuse and mental health.
The department is responsible for investing money in nonprofits that will provide the best return for the county's youth. Agencies may make service proposals to the Children's Service Fund, which then reimburses those groups whose plans receive approval.
The Children's Service Fund also audits its partner agencies to ensure that proposals align with services provided.
Located north of Highway 70 on Turner Boulevard, the State of Missouri Career Center is a state-run office designed to assist people in their career search. The website features all of the services the agency offers, and encourages job-seekers to interact with the site and use it as a resource.
Saint Louis County License Division administers shared licenses between the county and state (peddler/solicitor, auctioneer, pool & billiard table licenses), licenses which simply fall under county authority (liquor, amusement activity regulation, convention and tourism tax, convention and sport tax), and licenses for unincorporated parts of the county (commercial and charitable solicitors, trailer courts, utilities tax, etc.). This division does not handle auto and driver, merchant licenses or work permits.
The St. Charles County Historic Courthouse is home to the county executive's office, the office of public information, the county counselor's office, the county council and the merit system commission.
The building was once the county's courthouse. Today the County Council meets in the former courtroom on the third floor. County Council meetings are typically on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, at 7pm. County Council work sessions are typically the first Monday of the month, at 5:30pm. The St. Louis County Family Court is the South County branch of the city's family court system. The court deals with all juvenile cases as well as settling parental rights and custody issues.
The South County Municipal Court handles misdemeanor criminal charges. It also handles traffic and other tickets distributed by the South County area police. Citizens obtain rulings and pay fines if necessary at this court.
St. Charles County Election Authority is the headquarters for all of the election operations for the county. Candidates can file to run for office at the Election Authority, and residents can obtain a copy of candidates' filing information as well as results from the election.
