For more than 80 years, the Montgomery County National Park Planning Commission has striven to improve the quality of life for areas residents through three basic tenants: the management of physical growth and planning communities; the protection and stewardship of cultural, natural and historic resources and offering leisure and recreational experiences.

One of the busiest of Baltimore County's 33 volunteer fire companies, the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to Arbutus and its surrounding communities. AVFD is one of only two stations in the county, with two Advanced Life Support-equipped ambulances. Swift water rescue has been been part of the department's activities for more than a decade.
The AVFD firehall is an Arbutus institution, with a community center available for special events, regular record and CD meets that attract dealers and collectors from around the region and an annual carnival in July.
Located on Church Circle in the heart of downtown Annapolis, the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County is the third oldest courthouse in the state of Maryland that is still in use, according to records. Construction for a new facility on the premises began in 1994 and was completed in 2000. The original courthouse still remains and serves as the main entrance to the new courthouse.
Located on Washington Road near Westminster Senior High School, the Community Media Center is a public, educational, and government media organization that provides a production facility for five local television channels including Channel 18 (Carroll Community College), Channel 19 (Public Access), Channel 21 (Board of Education), Channel 23 (Municipal), and Channel 24 (County Government). They exist as part of a national program requiring cable companies to assign a small portion of their channel capacity to represent local communities' interests and desires in exchange for the use of the public's right of ways. The Carroll County CMC moved into their current facility after construction was completed in 2004.
