In addition, it works closely with the school board, district attorney and judges to provide an in-school and suspension-on-site program, an alternative school for at-risk students, a monthly local-access cable television crime prevention and training show that reaches nearly 17,000 homes, and oversees a state-of-the-art prison and juvenile detention facility. The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff s Office employs nearly 350 deputies and staff members.

Founded in 1998, the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention Center provides short-term care for juveniles who are accused, adjudicated pending court action and awaiting transfer to another facility.
