The Clay County Health Department, located in Flora Ill., has been providing services to prevent illnesses and promoting community health since 1967. It offers a wide range of services that include a diabetes program, environmental, home and public health, health education, hospice program, maternal and child health and nursing. It carries out its services through community needs assessment, education and the provision of necessary services. The health department makes home health nursing visits to Medicare patients. Its animal control program includes the control of stray dogs and cats, investigation of animal bites, registration of dogs, issuance of rabies tags, and the overall enforcement of the Illinois Animal Control Act. The Clay County Health Department also operates the Teen Responsibility, Education, Achievement, Caring and Hope center that is available to youth enrolled in grades two through eight and provides opportunities to build up their knowledge, social skills and self-confidence through various activities.
