The county attorney is the official counsel to the Board of Directors. This office drafts all county ordinances and is the legal representation of all county offices.
The District Attorney's office handles all court procedures for the six cities, 15 towns and 22 villages that make up Westchester County. The office is housed in the Richard J. Daronco building in downtown White Plains. Inside, the staff is divided into departments including the homicide unit, the narcotics and firearms unit and the pleadings bureau.
