Founded in 1971, The Louisville-Jefferson County Public Defender is a nonprofit organization that offers legal services in Kentucky. It renders legal services to indigent adults and juveniles who are accused of crimes and status offenses. The organization also provides services to people who are subjected to involuntary hospitalization due to mental illnesses.
