The Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church is located on Route 117 in Pleasantville.

Emanuel is a member of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is known for its handbell choirs and its social ministry programs. Sunday worship is held at 9 and 11:15 a.m. every week. Sunday school and adult classes are held each Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The church is home to the Pleasant Hill Nursery School. Other groups, such as Musical Munchkins, a program for parents and pre-schoolers, take advantage of the church's large education building and parish hall.

The Learning Partnership is the publisher of the magazine-based Straight Talk health education and risk-reduction program for pre-teens and teens, according to John Fisher, president and chief executive.

The editor-in-chief of Straight Talk is Rita Fisher.

Straight Talk features supplemental materials for parents, teachers and discussion leaders to help them talk about the various topics covered in the magazines with their teens.

Straight Talk partners with various organizations throughout the country, and encourages its teen audience to contribute to publication regularly.

The Marmaduke Forster House is large Victorian-style house built by Marmaduke Forster in 1786. It has since been renovated a few times. Currently the house has been converted into office space that is used by professionals and small business owners. The structure features an 80-foot front porch, elaborate woodwork throughout and a Queen Anne octagonal turret. The Marmaduke Forster House is currently being registered into the National Registry of Historic Places. There is also a wine club here that holds monthly meetings, tastings and dinners.

The oldest house in Pleasantville is the Rectory of St. John's dating from 1785. The current church, however, dates back to 1912.

Lifelong Episcopalians, converts, mixed-faith families and  seekers and mixed faith families make up the congregation.  The church serves Pleasantville, Hawthorne, Thornwood and Valhalla and surrounding communities.  The church has outreach initiatives, both locally and abroad.
