Horace Mann Educational Associates has dozens of locations all over the state, providing educational services for thousands of children and adults with disabilities.
The Council on Aging facility on West Main Street used to be a fire station and then a school house before it turned into its current incarnation, a senior center. Upon entering the building, you will meet many friendly seniors who have a lot of wisdom (and free flower vases) to share. They are also currently looking for more Bridge players.
This is location is the home of the Norton headquarters of the Annawon Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Incorporated in 1931, the Annawon Council now welcomes both boy and girl scouts. Outdoor activities mainly take place at nearby Camp Norse.
Old Colony Rest Home provides assisted living services and medical nursing for seniors with serious illnesses and disabilities. This community is available for short- and long-term care.
The Massachusetts Fraternal Order of Police is a not-for-profit organization that handles benefits for law enforcement employees. The Norton chapter is located on the second floor of the brick building in the 495 Market Place plaza, though there is no sign for the facility. Arnie Larson is president and Todd Bramwell is vice president.
Housed in the District 3 Schoolhouse, the Norton Historical Society meets every third Tuesday from September through May (except December). It offers research assistance in genealogy and local history. In addition, education programs are available for school groups. Society President Ruth Goold encourages all to come to the Old Schoolhouse and see the wonderful artifacts, speak with the members, learn and become acquainted with the town. New members are welcome.
Nine Lives is a nonprofit cat adoption agency located in front of Norton Animal Shelter. The shelter is always looking for volunteers and adoptive and foster families, as well as donations of money, food and supplies. Every Friday is "Feline Friday" on Norton Patch, where a cat who needs a home is featured, so check it out if you're considering an addition to your family.
