Stewart Street Park is located atop an inactive landfill and is within stone-throwing range of Interstate 10. It's encircled by trees, and more or less walled off from the noisy traffic.

Serving residents of the Mountain View Mobile Inn, as well as the Treffinger EY trailer park, this 3.8-acre spread features a youth-baseball field, a soccer field, a basketball court and—hallelujah—a free parking lot with 32 spaces. There's also a playground and building with restrooms.

Some locals have raised concerns about the park over the years, as the former landfill has resulted in low levels of methane gas being released at the location.

One of the larger parks along Santa Monica Beach, Dorothy Green Park has a less-is-more theme. Beyond the modestly-sized playground and a few picnic tables made of stone, the main draw here is the large expanses of grass, interrupted only by palm trees. Roughly a mile away from all the action happening to the north (at the Santa Monica Pier) and the south (at the Venice Boardwalk), Dorothy Green Park is low on noise and big on tranquility. You'll be reminded why the nearby ocean is called the Pacific.

The Santa Monica Bahai Center, located on the corner of Colorado Avenue and Berkely Street, was established in 2003 and became the focal point for Baha'i activities in the region. Its large brick structure is square and monolithic with trimmed hedges and a semiprivate courtyard in back. This is the only Baha'i place of fellowship in Santa Monica and it holds a mixture of Neighborhood Feasts in homes around Santa Monica. The Collective Feasts, held in the Santa Monica Bahai Center, are larger affairs and attract Baha'i faithful from all over Southern California. The feasts are designed to promote fellowship among the members of the Baha'i faith and non-members who are interested in learning more. Visit its website for a schedule of upcoming events.
