Since it opened its doors in 1918, the Harold Colbert Jones Memorial Community Center has been a valuable facet of the Chicago Heights community. The center has after-school and summer programs for kids, senior programs and computer classes slong with several emergency services such as a food pantry and used clothing. In addition to the indoor facilities, the Jones Center also has an outdoor play area that includes a playground and a picnic pavilion.

The Jones Center has lots of events going on throughout the year along with volunteer opportunities for those interested.

The recreation center, both a community resource and a sports and fitness facility, is the prime location for several events in the city. The Chicago Heights Park District Board of Commissioners meets on the second Monday of each month in the center's social room, which can also be rented out by the public for special events. Resident also get discounts on becoming members.
