Thornton Academy, established in 1811, is an independently owned public high school located in Saco, Maine. It offers courses in business, math, science, computer technology, English, foreign languages, social studies, life skills, and fine and performing arts. The academy also offers advanced-placement classes in calculus, computer science, English literature and composition, Latin and United States history. It offers English honors courses in freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. The academy s main focus in sports is American football. It offers various extracurricular activities, such as art club, band, chorus, drama, newspaper, student council, yearbook, Young Adults Against Dating Abuse, National Honor Society, outdoor adventure club and National Art Honor Society. The academy has an enrollment of more than 1,300 students and is approved by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
