In 1968, the Martin Luther King Recreation Center was added to the park facilities. The land for Martin Luther King Park (originally Nicollet Park) was purchased in 1916. Now the center hosts a variety of programs for all ages utilizing the many amenities; a basketball court, craft room, gymnasium, meeting rooms, volleyball court, computer lab and kitchen. Community Services is located on the second floor of the Washington County Government Center and works with public and private agencies to offer assistance to help eligible residents be safe and successful. Visit this office for help with adoption, child abuse or neglect, elderly abuse or neglect, chemical dependency, financial, employment and medical assistance and child care and support.
Located in St. Michael City Hall, the town's Department of Public Works is made up of three divisions, each responsible for the construction and maintenance of public facilities and the provision of utility services. The engineering department oversees the construction of all new facilities, as well as the preparation of plans, supervision and inspection. The joint water board is responsible for maintenance of the city's sewer system. The streets and parks division is responsible for roadway repairs and regular cleaning and maintenance of the city's parks and thoroughfares.
Roseville Oval is a skating and outdoor recreation facility. During the winter months, the location offers ice skating and also has a 400-meter speed skating track surrounding an infield ice area used for hockey. During the warmer months, the location is used for inline skating and offers skate park facilities. It offers public skating times, skate rentals, a grandstand for spectators and a scoreboard.
The Washington County Government Center is the hub of county government. It houses the Washington County District Court and court administration. It is also the county's main service center, where guests can find property records and taxpayer services, community services, public health and environment services, a WIC Clinic, and surveying and land management offices. The Government Center is also home to the County Board Room, where the county commissioners meet to set policy and meet with residents, as well as offices for the county commissioners, administration officials and human resources.
Located in Minnetonka, Williston Fitness Center is a full-service facility and fitness center that caters to the workout needs of all training levels. Williston Fitness Center offers group classes, personal training, a running club and a tennis program.
This fitness center has a pool for water aerobics as well as the latest in fitness technology, including: ellipticals, treadmills, free weights, five indoor tennis courts, a basketball court and a child-care center.
Classes include cardio, body sculpting, yoga, pilates, core conditioning, Zumba, ballroom and Latin dance, kickboxing, martial arts, and more.
The Plymouth Ice Center provides year-round ice skating, rentals and classes at its indoor facility. This center features three rinks of two sizes, one Olympic and two professional. This facility also has 16 locker rooms and two community meeting rooms. Wayzata and Armstrong high schools and Providence Academy play their home ice hockey games at the arena. The ice can be rented for groups by the quarter hour. The facility is a public-private collaboration between the city, Wayzata School District, Providence Academy, Life Time Fitness, local hockey associations and the state of Minnesota.
